Character Codex Round 13 - Gnome Ranger and Rogue

Welcome to Round 13 of the Chronicle Character Codex!

I'm  drawing our way through all 77 race/class combinations in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.  We're showing off the Gnome Fighter, Gnome Monk,  and Gnome Paladin today.  If you've missed any previous entries you can catch up HERE!

We've rounded the bend on the gnomes and this week we're taking a look at the Gnome Ranger and Gnome Rogue.

Gnome Ranger

Gnome Ranger

First up is the Gnome Ranger.  For this one, I wanted to mirror the naturalist version of the druid but a bit more combat oriented.  So I went with the Trophy Hunter archetype from The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game - Ultimate Combat.  This blended well with the notion that the gnomes of Chronicle are the main race to have have black powder and their innate drive to study a science.  I can see this gnome being the kind of naturalist who fills a museum with taxidermy specimens for posterity's sake.  Somewhere there's a gallery with a stuffed owlbear in it!

I gave her some magical gear, though the exact powers of that gear could be changed up, depending on what the player had in mind.

Gnome Rogue

Gnome Rogue

Next up is the Gnome Rogue.  This one's a bit on the nose, but I went with the Trapsmith archetype from the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Advanced Player's Guide.  I know that a tinker gnome being good at disabling traps isn't very original, but sometimes you have to draw the classics and this is my own version of it.

I gave him goggles because a proper gnome has to have a proper pair of goggles.  They're most likely some for of Perception buff.  I like to think the screwdriver is magical (maybe even sonic, eh?) and gives a disable device bonus.

Well, that's it for this week!  Next week we finish up the gnomes with the Sorcerer and the Wizard.  So, come back to see what I can come up with for a pair of mages!

Character Codex Round 12 - Gnome Fighter, Monk, and Paladin

Hey everyone!  Welcome back to another round of the Character Codex!  We're drawing our way through all 77 race/class combinations in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.  We're showing off the Gnome Fighter, Gnome Monk,  and Gnome Paladin today.  If you've missed any previous entries you can catch up HERE!

And now, bring on the gnomes!

Gnome Fighter

Gnome Fighter

First up is the Gnome Fighter.  I wanted to do at least one of these based off of the classic "garden gnome."  So, I came up with the elite fighters, the Red Caps (named after another fairy creature).  The gnomes of Chronicle are the only ones who have figured gunpowder out, so they have access to renaissance era firearms.  But, since the Codex (for now) is only covering the Core Classes the Pathfinder Gunslinger is not available.  So, this guy is using his fighter feats to become a crack shot.

Next, we have the Gnome Monk.  This monk is a Ki Mystic, meditating to study the truth of existence.  I thought it would be interesting to give her a floating meditation cushion so that she could move about while still focusing her ki.  She has an ioun stone of wisdom above her head and an ioun stone that negates her need for  food and water on her headpiece.

Gnome Monk

Gnome Monk

Gnome Paladin

Gnome Paladin

Finally we have the Gnome Paladin.  The patron god of gnomes is Gib, the god of knowledge and magic.  So, I designed this guy to look like a knight who could cast a some magic as well.  Stat-wise, I think he would resemble the Knights of the Sacred Flame from Forgotten Realms.  They, too, are paladins of a god of magic.

The blue and purple are Gib's colors, representing knowledge and magic respectively.

That's it for this week!  Next week, we'll have the gnome ranger and rogue.  See you then!

Character Codex - Round 11 - Gnome Cleric and Gnome Druid

Hey everyone!  Welcome back to another round of the Character Codex!  We're drawing our way through all 77 race/class combinations in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.  We're showing off the Gnome Cleric and Gnome Druid today.  If you've missed any you can catch up HERE!

As always, if you're a virtual tabletop player, make sure to pop over and pick up some free tokens suitable for use in any virtual tabletop environment.

Also, if you like what you see here please consider clicking the Tip Jar button down the page or sharing this on the social media site of your choosing.

And now, bring on the gnomes!

Gnome Cleric

Gnome Cleric

Next up is the Gnome Druid.  Gnomes in Chronicle are, generally speaking, scholars and scientists.  When a gnome comes of age, they choose an area of knowledge to specialize in.  With that in mind I had the idea that a gnome druid would be one of those naturalists that was really in tune with nature and lived among the animals like Jane Goodall or Dian Fossey.  So that's what I went with.

She's wearing light safari-style clothes instead of a more traditional medieval fantasy style garment.  That's fitting with the gnomes of Chronicle who are a little more advanced technologically.  At the same time her hair's a slight mess and she does still have the pointy gnome shoes.

I almost drew her with apes, but I thought the inspiration would have been a bit ham-fisted.  So, instead I give you a bird (phrasing!) and a new critter I came up with called a badgercoot.

First up is our Gnome Cleric.  This little guy is a favorite of mine.  He was a character in the original Chronicle comic books published back in 2000.  This is Englund.  He's a priest of chaos.  Not a preist of a god of chaos, just chaos.  Now when most people hear "priest of chaos" they think devastation, destruction, and mayhem.  Englund is more of the random, stream of consciousness, unpredictable brand of chaotic.  For example, what's going on with this duck?  Is it a zombie duck and he's turning it or is he turning it into a zombie duck?  Hard to say.

Englund started out as a player character in the original Chronicle D&D game and I'm pretty sure he was human, but over the years he's morphed down into what can only be called a gnome and I think it fits him well.

Gnome Druid

So, that's it for this week!  Next week, we'll be looking at the Gnome Fighter, Gnome Monk, and if I can get to it, Gnome Paladin!

Character Codex Round 10 - Gnome Barbarian and Bard

Welcome back to the Character Codex!  We're working our way through all 77 core race and class combination in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.  We just finished up the elves and this week we're beginning the invasion of the gnomes! That's 22 down!  you can see them all in the Character Codex Gallery.

Also, if you use a virtual tabletop you can pick up free tokens every week for the latest entries.  If you're looking for dwarves or elves, you can pick up each 11 piece token set over in the Artist's Store.  These tokens are already formatted and sized to import into any virtual tabletop  program like Roll 20 for example.

And now, on with the gnomes!

Gnome Barbarian

Gnome Barbarian

First up, we have the Gnome Barbarian.  Part caveman, part Celtic warrior, this little guy makes up for his size with his fury.

Gnomes in Chronicle tend to be very civilized and intellectual.  So this guy is a great departure right off the bat.  What's not to love about a feral gnome?!

Gnome Bard

Gnome Bard

Next up we have the gnome bard.  This is more like the gnomes of Chronicle.  Gnomes in Chronicle are sponges for knowledge.  When they come of age, they devote themselves to a field of study and join that field's bureau.  A gnome's bureau is its family.  Gnomes are not interested in recording blood lineages, but rather pass down the great breakthroughs and discoveries of those in the bureau before them.

This particular gnome would be using the Archivist alternate class features.
I love the Naturalist ability for this alternate class.  Basically, the bard carries around a Bestiary and looks up monsters then tells everyone how to beat it.  I imagine that's what she's doing here - checking her notes on how to tame an owlbear maybe.

That's it this week!  Next week, come back for the gnome cleric and the gnome druid.  The gnome cleric is one of my all-time favorite Chronicle characters and fans of the original series will be happy to see his reappearance.  So make sure to come back next week!

Character Codex Round 9 - Elf Sorcerer and Elf Wizard

Greetings Chroniclers!  Welcome to another week of the Character Codex!

This week we're wrapping up the Month of Elves!  So make sure to get your free Virtual Tabletop Tokens before next week!  All of the elves will be bundled into a low-cost downloadable bundle after that.  Speaking of which, stay tuned to The Chronicler's Notes because there will be more downloadable content coming very soon!

Next week we'll begin the Gnomes!  I can't wait to get started on these guys, especially some of the unusual combinations like Gnome Barbarian or Gnome Paladin. Until then let's take a look at our last two elves!

Elf Sorcerer

Elf Sorcerer

First up is the elf sorcerer.  He looks similar to the Elf Bard and with good reason.  These two are brothers!  They are both from the noble family, House Etyr (Et-ear).

House Etyr is noted for having a very strong bloodline of sorcery.  They are proud of that lineage and resent that the Celesyn king has chosen to diplomatically align with the wizards of the Brotherhood of the Threefold Path.

This particular elf is one of the younger siblings of the Etyr family.  He is flashy and full of rage.  I've given him a few scars on his face as he's been in several battles and loves spell duels.  Fire is his preferred element, coinciding with his temperament.

Black and red are traditionally House Etyr's, setting them apart from the usual greens, yellows, and browns of other elves.

Elf Wizard

Elf Wizard

Up next is the Elf Wizard.  She is a member of Awyr (aw-ear), the royal house of Celeque, though a distant cousin to the king.  The king has made it a priority that any magically gifted children in House Awyr should immediately be schooled by the Brotherhood.  This is a sign of good faith between the king and the Brotherhood.  As such, she is also a member of the Brotherhood of the Threefold Path.

As a member of the White Order, she is tasked with mediation, diplomacy, and healing.  White robes are called in whenever the peace needs to be maintained or restored.  They are the most public of the three orders and are seen as the face of the Brotherhood.  This order has unlocked the mystery of Arcane Healing.  Since magical healing has almost exclusively belonged to the divine powers of the gods, this has drawn both intrigue and ire from non-wizards.

Her robes are travelling robes, designed for adventure and walking.  She also has more formal robes to be worn when she is at a Brotherhood academy.
