The Chronicler's Notes - New Schedule - Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

Hey everyone!

Dwarf Monk (Rough Sketch)

Dwarf Monk (Rough Sketch)

We're back after a bit of a freeze!  I hope you enjoyed the Elsa Sketch.  I had fun drawing it and i'm going to start adding some non-Chronicle related material to the galleries.  But, more on that in a second.

We had another 1000+ page views last week for the Character Codex!  This thing is picking up steam, so I've decided to give it its own spot on the weekly schedule.  It is now officially going to update on Wednesdays.  This week's a Triple Header with the Dwarf Fighter (male), the Dwarf Monk (female), and the Dwarf Paladin (male).  So, make sure to check back tomorrow to see how they turned out!

With the Character Codex getting its own update that's going to change some things around.  Here's the new schedule:

Monday - The Chronicler's Notes - This blog.  News, essays, and appearances.

Tuesday - RPG Resources and World-Building - I'm combining these two categories because they're kinda the same.  I'll make sure to note when something is an RPG element and when something is a short story so readers don't wonder what Hit Points or Armor Class are!

Wednesday - Chronicle Character Codex.  We're marching our way through all of the traditional D&D style races and classes, using the Pathfinder Core Rulebook as basis.  Each week will have at least two (a male and a female) characters.  77 of them in all!

Thursday - Comic Update - The heart of Chronicle.  This week's strip is a can't miss!  There's 20+ characters in it and I had so much fun drawing it!

Friday - Gallery Work - This is what I was talking about earlier.  I'm going to start putting up some non-Chronicle related work to let you guys see what else I can do and let you see what inspires me as an artist.  So check back here to watch me spread my wings and branch out!

Still five days of content each week! I hope you can find something you like.  As always, if you do, then please leave a Tip in the Jar, buy a sketch (still on sale!), click an ad, or at least Share Chronicle on social media.

Thanks,

THAN

Character Codex Round 2 - Dwarf Cleric and Druid

Here's the latest update to my Character Codex project!  In case you missed the first update (gallery here), I'm going to be going through all 77 race/class combinations in the Pathfinder Core Rulebook.  Before we get started, let me ask you to go check out the Chronicle comic!  Even though I'm having fun with the Codex the comic is my main focus.  It updates every Thursday, so come back tomorrow for a new strip!  Also, if you like what you see and you want your own character drawn, I'm running a sale on Character Sketches.

Okay, enough promotion!  So, today we have the Dwarf Cleric and Dwarf Druid!

Dwarf Cleric

Dwarf Cleric

For the Dwarf Cleric, I went pretty traditional; armor, hammer, beard.  I imagined him as being a lower level character, so not much in the way of gear.  He's a priest of Jax, the dwarven god in Chronicle.  Rather than have a separate holy symbol, Jax's priests use their weapon which has been blessed.   Here he's turning some unknown undead.  It's a bit rough and a little plain, but I'm still pleased with it.

Dwarf Druid

Dwarf Druid

For the Dwarf Druid, I went a little out of the ordinary.  First off, yes, that is indeed a bearded female dwarf.  The bearded women thing with dwarves has always been a bit of a controversy.  Some say it's just a joke and they don't actually have beards, some say it's mandatory.  Pathfinder's (and D&D's, if I recall) official stance is that they do not, in fact, have beards.  The official Chronicle stance is that they once had beards, but after the dwarf nation traded its swords for plowshares, the hirsute look fell out of fashion.  Now only, the most uncivilized dwarven women have beards.  I figured a druid would fit in that category.  She's a mountain druid and fairly high level, pulling off some earth bending moves.  I'm super pleased with this one.  The spearhead looks rough, I may go back and correct that.  But, I'm happy with everything else.

Next week, is the Dwarf Fighter and Dwarf Monk (and Dwarf Paladin, if I get time)!

1600 Page Views in 24 Hours!! - The Chronicler's Notes - Monday, February 4th

dwarf bard.jpg

Wow!  I'm speechless.  Last week was our biggest week yet.  1600 page views in 24 hours, nearly 2500 page views last week and nearly 1500 unique visits in one week!

Apparently, people really like the Character Codex idea!  I've got some other ideas in the works so please stick around!  There's SO much more to come from Chronicle.  In the meantime, please check out the comic!  It's still the main focus of the site and I'm proud of the five strips that have come out so far.

There's also new content every day.  Some artwork, some writing, some game design.  There's something for everyone!

I'm already getting new ideas and hope to be able to share those with you soon.

Finally, as a celebration, I'm running a SALE on sketches.  FIVE DOLLARS gets you a black and white character drawing of your choice/design.  Even better, for a limited time, two extra dollars gets that drawing in color!  7 bucks and I'll draw your RPG character or your favorite fictional (or non-fictional even) character in color!  So head to the Shop and tell me what to draw!

Thanks again!

Character Codex Round One!

DWARF BARBARIAN

DWARF BARBARIAN

Today, I'm kicking off a new weekly update called Character Codex.  The goal here is to go through the Pathfinder Core Rulebook and draw every race/class combination (77 of those, by the way!)  I'll be alternating between male and female and may go back to complete the pairs in the future.

DWARF BARD

DWARF BARD

My personal goal with this is to use the opportunity to play around with character design.  So, I plan on having fun with them and I hope you'll enjoy seeing the progress.  I also hope that some of you RPG players will want to use these as character portraits.

If you have any ideas for what some of the upcoming combinations should look like, let me know!  I might just use your concept and give you credit!

Also, don't forget to hit up the other Pathfinder content on the site and especially take a look at the comic!
